TessaGrows seed template with zinnia, radish, marigold, kale, spinach

Spinach

Planting Season: Early spring/late summer

Germination Time: 7-10 Days

Days to Harvest: 35-45 Days

Height: 4-5 inches

Sun/shade: Full sun

Tips: Birds love the seeds, so protect your growbag with some sort of netting if possible.

Flower Fun: With a quick wash in between, you can take your spinach straight from the garden to the salad bowl!

Lacinato “Dinosaur” Kale

Planting Season: Spring through summer

Germination Time: 10-20 Days

Days to Harvest: 65-75 Days

Height: 12-36 inches

Sun/shade: Full sun

Tips: Harvest the outer leaves first, making sure to ‘leave’ at least 4 leaves so the plant can continue making more food. Tastes best in cool weather. Frost makes it more crunchy.

Flower Fun: What do you call a story about vegetables? A Fairy Kale.

Radish

Planting Season: Early spring/late summer/early fall

Germination Time: 5-10 Days

Days to Harvest: 22-25 Days

Height: 6-8 inches

Sun/shade: Full sun

Tips: Gently feel around the base of the plant for a small round ball (bigger than a marble). If you can feel it, it's ready to harvest!

Flower Fun: The largest radish ever harvested weighed approximately 69 lbs, which is close to the average weight of a 10 year old boy.

Marigold (Crackerjack Blend)

Planting Season: Early spring/late summer/early fall

Germination Time: 5-15 Days

Days to Harvest: 42-48 Days

Height: 24-24 inches

Sun/shade: full sun to partial shade

Tips: Marigold is one of the best known pest-repelling plants.

Flower Fun: Marigolds are excellent companions to kale as they attract hoverflies that feed on aphids, thereby preventing them from eating your kale leaves.

Zinnia

Planting Season: Spring through early summer

Germination Time: 5-10 Days

Days to Harvest: 60-70 Days

Height: 36-42 inches

Sun/shade: Full sun

Tips: Zinnias are one of the easiest flowers to grow, and if you allow your plant to go to seed, those seeds can be sown during the next growing season.

Flower fun: These flowers have a rough sandpaper textured surface.
